Regeants Empty Regeants

Post by CromTheConqueror Fri Jul 08, 2011 12:18 am

I'm hoping to streamline magic a little bit to stop them from becoming an item job. Between special feedback items and regeants it seems we'd need a whole inventory list for characters that want to be mages. Instead let's combine feedback and regeants. Let's have mages capable of manipulating mana into elemental mana but have them be forced to put the feedback into regeants specific to the element. For example if I have a mage that wants to shoot out a bout of fire he would cast this as normal but then have a regeant specific to fire. Cuts inventory in half. (Alternatively what causes harms to mages when casting with regeants and feedback ground tools under the current system? It could be that this would carry over if not the damage could come from the mage turning the mana in elemental mana and then from a very small portion of the blowback the regeant (depending on the quality) doesn't handle.)

Not a whole inventory list. Things can be very generic, sort of like listing Daggers x blah. Until it's sorted out, one can assume they always have them. The red tape also helps a bit to curb the power and popularity of mages. Mages also don't need reagents. Reagents are actually pretty damn rare, and the ones that are made semi-mass produced are still saved for high-ranking mages of the Conclave or a respective guild.

Instead let's combine feedback and regeants. Let's have mages capable of manipulating mana into elemental mana but have them be forced to put the feedback into regeants specific to the element.

No such thing as elemental mana. And what about the feedback from spells that are in no way elementally affiliated? Interesting thought though.

For example if I have a mage that wants to shoot out a bout of fire he would cast this as normal but then have a regeant specific to fire. Cuts inventory in half.

Due to the rarity of reagents and the fact that there are spells that are not elementally affiliated, this can pretty much only increase the inventory. Also, I'm using the spelling of Reagent, as it looks a lot like Re-agent, and Re-act. It's also technically a word according to Firefox.

Alternatively what causes harms to mages when casting with regeants and feedback ground tools under the current system?

Well, if everything goes swimmingly, then no harm comes to mages. However, if they are not skilled enough, lose concentration in some way, then it doesn't matter what they have, they are likely to be hurt very badly.

It could be that this would carry over if not the damage could come from the mage turning the mana in elemental mana and then from a very small portion of the blowback the regeant (depending on the quality) doesn't handle.

...What?

How does that limit them if they can cast without feedback harming them?

Because if they don't have feedback grounds they can't cast magic without severe personal injury.

It's also possible that with feedback grounds they can still botch a spell and be harmed.
