Name:

Eulmarch

Government Type:

Monarchy

Current Rulers:

King Eulthim Sciras
Queen Nafilia Sciras

Geography:

The Kingdom of Eulmarch is situated on the western side of the Wailing Mountains' southernmost peak in the east. The land that the kingdom claims has very rocky soil due to the erosion of the Wailing Mountain, causing only resilient vegetation to grow. The foothills descend into rolling plains where few trees will grow, even towards the delta of the Scirasi River.

Climate:

Usually overcast year-round with near-constant light rain, although the winter snow accounts for almost half of its total precipitation. The high humidity causes summers to be very stifling. However, the beginning and ending weeks of summer are usually quite pleasant thanks to the cool winds blowing in from the bay and through the mountains. These weather fluctuations are caused by the interaction between the two incoming winds.

Economy:

Recently torn apart by the civil war, Eulmarch has had to rely upon and strengthen its agricultural and manufacturing industries. Few trees that do grow in the rocky soil are suitable for fletchers and shipwrights. However, many varieties of nut, fruit, and syrup can be harvested. The grasslands of Eulmarch are able to feed a variety of livestock that account for the majority of foodstuffs to be stored or exported, while the delicious nuts, fruits, and syrups are usually exported as luxury goods. The Wailing Mountains are also rich in several ores, most notably gold and iron. Some of this ore, and the many types of gems found in the Wailing Mountains, have eroded into the foothills, allowing for personal and commercial “scavenging” efforts outside the mining colonies. The city of Haxon is well established as Eulmarch's economic powerhouse, being the manufacturing and refining center for the various goods and materials the towns and colonies produce. The final products are then shipped to the port of Cadillin for export. The luxury cuisine and renowned metalwork, which often involves the gems found with the ore, mark Eulmarch as a key import for royalty and government.

Culture:

The culture of Eulmarch is derived completely from Sciras. Scirathian culture focused on pride and glory. Due to its unique position and resources, Sciras was ranked among the best in terms of military and economy. The citizens and royalty prided themselves in being impervious to the perils of the Great War while they benefitted from it, sending economic allies military aid during times of strife for sums of gold or lower tariffs. Of particular fear to others were Scirathian horsemen. Composed of highly trained recruits and experienced veterans, the horse companies had only to be present in a city to deter attack, a reputation founded from the deaths of those unfortunate to face them in combat. The horse also became the symbol of Sciras: Proud, gallant, quick and deadly. Statues of kings, queens, great generals and important peoples were carved with their figures atop or beside horses.
As the Great War neared its end, many other nations were founded from the ashes of a defeated monarchy, allowing people greater rights and more benefits. Much of the populace of Sciras took notice, and a large civil war erupted. The statues were vandalized and destroyed, troop barracks set aflame, the royal banners torn to shreds. The civil war ended in the split of Sciras into three new nations.
No longer is the Scirathian horse proud, gallant, quick or deadly. It lies with every leg broken, its head forced into the mud. Where the land of Sciras was once beautiful and radiant despite the cloudy skies and the haze of rain, it is now viewed with tinges of gray and obscured by shadow.

Significant Settlements:

Prasone:

The capital of Eulmarch, previously the first capital of Sciras. The various mercantile families, nobles, and such all live here. Although the castle is extensive, much of the actual city lays without due to the expansive estates held within.

Haxon:

Eulmarch's economic powerhouse, managing large manufacturing and refining complexes for the various goods and materials the towns and colonies produce.

Cadillin:

Eulmarch's primary port on the Scirasi river, having had taken over for Chalegne Fortress after the splitting of Sciras. Thanks to the mercantile families' interests and efforts, Cadillin is developing rapidly, with shipyards and fortifications being built to prevent their investments from being harmed further.

Chalegne Fortress:

A fortress and port city that spans the neck of the southern fork in the Scirasi river. Once a bustling and fortuitous place, it has since fallen on hard times due to the close proximity to and tense relations with Visnia. Although a treaty declaring Chalegne a demilitarized zone with open trade for both Visnia and Eulmarch was quickly declared after the secession, both sides fear foul play, and very little trade occurs here anymore. Many people are looking for the opportunity to leave towards a brighter future, regardless what country they must leave to.

Wailing Peak:

Wailing Peak is a fortress on the southernmost peak of the Wailing Mountains. The populace consists mainly of soldiers, either for the King or for fortune, who fulfill the many professions necessary for the fortress to maintain its integrity. Many bejeweled crafts and rare grains are exported, and new recruits are trained in specialized military academies. There are always whispers here of dissension, and many are suspected of deserting at any moment to either of the other countries of former Sciras.

Just wondering, what would constitute a "rare grain?"

A type of grain that is rare. As in any grain that we may come up with in the future that might be rare that might be applicable to this area.

Don't have specifics for you.
