Invocation

Invocation

There are hundreds of religions across Ara’niel, and gods take many forms. The gods may choose to bless all of their followers minorly, or bless certain individuals majorly, but they must always make their presence known in order to gain more followers and keep the ones that they already have.

Priests and priestesses, or any other title they may go by, are necessary for the structure of religion to stand. They direct worship, conduct services, and administer benefits from the gods or goddesses they represent. Their art is known as Invocation.

Prayer and worship are forms of invocation that bestows belief into a divine being, empowering said being to in turn bestow benefits upon their followers. Often it is only the most devout that are able to have more direct connections to the divine, and they are the only ones who can directly ask for something.

Gods and goddesses can also enact various forms of possession at great cost to their power on the most devout of their followers, granted that such followers willingly accept their possession.

Created Gods can bestow benefits in minor portions to many, or focus their power on blessing certain individuals much more. Depends on if you want to put all of your eggs in one basket or not.

I'm pretty sure minorly isn't a word.

This seems sort of unfair to magic users. Basically as a mage I risk life and limb everytime I cast a spell whereas some bloody poxy on a horse spouting out his love of the divine gets to cut into my party business for free.

It's not all fun and games, though. Gods don't always dish out their power, considering it's part of their own existence. The effects wouldn't be crazy powerful either, although a very powerful god, or a god who is threatened with losing all of his followers in the case of an assault on a town or temple, would be able to do some neat things. Also, mages are able to do this, they just also have to worship.

I suppose it could work as a scare tactic as well...

You know...saying it loudly in a scary voice can have a rather...disastrous affect on enemy morale.

Liam Nelson is a badass...

He was in that movie for all of 15 minutes, and he STILL managed to get the most epic line...
