Declare your allegiance...
Ok just for clarity's sake, let's go ahead and get this out of the way...
This topic is dedicated specifically towards the stance each nation took in the Great War, as well as a brief description of their stance after wards. After everything is fully ironed out we can go ahead and add a politics section to the kingdom profiles.
I can go ahead and start us off...
The Imperium of Atimar fought on the side of the mages during the later stages of the Great War, fighting against many of the main lander nations. Their legions progressed deep inland before eventually being pushed back to their island nation...after the invasion force was driven off with heavy casualties the Atimarian's lost all taste for war, and agreed to the mainlander's terms of surrender.
Presently Sentiment is mixed on the islands, although most agree that the conditions of their surrender are horrendous, as starvation and rioting run rampant on an over crowded island whose naval strengths are crippled by post war treaties.
At best Atimarian don't trust mainlanders...at worst they attempt to kill them on sight...
And that pretty much covers it...note this is all a rough, and open for discussion, debate, or change of any kind. Really what we're trying to do here is iron out the political details to everyone's satisfaction.

"On the side of the mages"?
How so?
Also, this is a good topic, and I'll post some information about the ideas I've had.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
Imperator was one of the flag nations for the mainlanders are her armies were directly responsible for dispelling the Atimar legions from the main continent. Due to the fact that Imperator lay at the heart of Ara'niel it was least affected by the war.
When the Great War ended it appeared as if Imperator would be one of the primary players in rebuilding the world. However, after the invasion from the Enemy Beyond the Mountain, Imperator stagnated as it attempted to rebuild its own kingdom.
Recently, it held a brief but destructive war with the horsemen of the neighboring Francia. This war ended with the rise of Imperators current king and tense but stable peace with Francia. A rivalary has developed between the two countries that is only countermanded by their mutual depedence.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
See I was under the impression that Imperator was affected by the war in that...it's capitol city was looted over the course of it...mostly because it said it was in it's Kingdom profile.
Also the Enemy Beyond the Mountains sounds interesting, but I haven't really heard anything about them. Same with Francia, although admittedly it sounds like a power man's france...which is really saying a lot.
In answer to Chaos' question they considered they supported the freedom of the mages in the conflict, and were allied with like minded realms in that regard. I might have inadvertently set them up as a sort of a central antagonist for the war...at least for the later years when things got a little more organized and less...chaotic...

Re: Declare your allegiance...
The city was looted right as the war "technically" ended by the Enemy Beyond the Mountain.

Gotcha. I'll post stuff about Kailzimoth (Or should I really change it to Khalizimoth...) and the shattered Sciras Kingdom.
Also, everyone keep in mind that this war lasted for a thousand years. It wasn't like two sides just went "ARR WE FIGHT TO THE DEATH!" for a thousand years, this is a thousand years of constant bickering, of trying to claim other lands to support their own nations, chains of hatred and vengeance grew long, civil wars touched the land, etc.
Shit went down.
Re: Declare your allegiance...
Well yes, this is more a deeper look at the more...organized later years, when proper warfare was wagged and the boundaries lines were well and properly established. Maybe...the last century or so of conflict I should say.
Incidentally Crom...who exactly is the Enemy Beyond the Mountains...because I've actually got a semi idea in progress I'm working on right now that might be applicable to that.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
It was veiled reference to the Orhal who I still hope to implement. What was your idea?

Re: Declare your allegiance...
A vaguely defined nation of cannibal warrior nomads that roam parts of the south lands in swarms unified pretty much by their worship of Deity level Monster that killed the Spirit Lord of the south lands thereby subjugating the people therein.
Most of the details haven't been ironed out...and it's all still up in the air at the moment...just a idea to reinforce the thought that the south lands are best left well enough a alone save for the very brave of or the very stupid.
Ok we've sorted out Atimar and the Imperator, although if someone would be willing I'd have some battle lines drawn up just to really ground in where this stage of the war was fought...just an idea really...

Re: Declare your allegiance...
Oh come on! The idea of a cannibalistic warrior tribe that are unified by a godlike monster that resembles some sort of galleon with the pure essence of debauchery invested into its being? It's like a fanfiction gone horribly, horribly wrong... or horribly, horribly right...
Re: Declare your allegiance...
Well that would be a good idea. I completely agree with the no real settelments past the Spine (I'd honestly thought that for some time now). I think we should do Orhal and your rough idea. More crazy barbarians sub-humans the merrier.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
I think the southlands are eventually going to turn into some abhuman playground. The Kailzim are already there, you plan the Orhal to be there or in the area, and it's open to a lot of other development.
Re: Declare your allegiance...
Ironically the barbarians sub-humans would STILL probably be the most populated 'nation' esc entity on the continent at that point. Uncivilized, with only the most basic grasp of magic to be sure...but undeniably numerous to be sure.
Chaos we're still waiting on you to weigh in here.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
I think the basic stuff is already posted for Sciras, and Kailzimoth was founded by those who fled and no longer really have much knowledge of the north save that they came from there. They're a lot more focused on the whole "Our race may die out as we fight feral versions of ourselves, who are our past family members and loved ones."
Sciras was founded during the Great War and its distance to the East meant it was of little interest in general. It most likely contributed with supplies to forces that fought Atimar and fielded a small navy that denied travel into the eastern bay and ensured such supply lines were kept stable.
Also, MN, if Atimar fought FOR the free mages, then wouldn't the closeness of the Conclave be something very... important to consider?

Re: Declare your allegiance...
Not sure if you catch your meaning...I figured Atimar would have some indirect ties to the conclave...simply because they both carry the legacy of the north...
If you mean they'd be enemies I don't imagine that would be the case, simply because Atimar considers itself friends to anything magic related. I don't think they'd have to much of a problem with Mages ruling themselves and what have you...

wait no settlement past...whoops. There goes Almoth Mardeo. Actually on that note I can do better with a country now that I'm not worried about making a good homeland for Torin. Feel free to balete Almoth Mardeo off the map.

Almoth-Mardeo still works, it's far enough away from the bad spots for it to be a none issue.

Yeah, Almoth-Mardeo is fine. You could always just say that you no longer care about it.

At any rate, Crom you need to Declare Eadhaolin's allegiance in the Great War, as well as it's present day politics and other such useful facts.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
Eadhalion didn't really come about until the end of the Great War. At the beginning that area (under whatever ruler ship it was under) would have fought against nations allied with Atimar. In the later years it was broken into a couple of areas that were allied to the Conclave and eventually became Eadhlaion.
Currently Eadhalion has considerate trade relationships with most nations but particularly strong ones with Imperator and the Conclave. I imagined a rivalry relationship between Eadhalion and Imperator that swung between mutual respect and hatred. Relations with the Sword States would be mostly neutral though there are trust issues as the states don't always act together and sometimes they send war bands under the guise of bandits to plunder Eadhalion. Though never to the degree to cause total war between the seven states and Eadhalion.
(If you don't like that idea tell me MN)
They would have chillier relations with and Atimar and Weisshaupt relatively neutral-to-good relations with the Remnants Sciras. Unsure about relationships with Mearcian. Need to talk to Bronkor about that.

Re: Declare your allegiance...
That works, gives me something to work with if nothing else...
I'm not sure what nations would be allied with Atimar at this point, but it's a minor detail really, and I kind of like the idea of Atimar being the sole antagonist to all the mainlanders and what have you.
I'll get the stances of the 'Sword States' as Crom likes to call them, down as soon as I get all their lore properly sorted out.
