The Great War (Campaign)
Just a thought at it's present moment, but some mention of developing military and political systems for nations made me think of this. The Great War would be a campaign, where players would be in control of various nations, armies, fleets, etc. during the height of the Great War. This would require us to come up with all the various nations involved, including some that no longer exist, so a lot of work would have to be done. However, it would certainly be quite interesting to have it play out.
As it's just a thought I'm proposing, I haven't actually done any work to figure out the specifics. This is more of a placeholder and interest-finder.

I just finished my Frederick Barbarossa essay and am full of this kind of shit. I also haven't slept for 48 hours, but I feel as intellectually inclined, wordy, horny and nerdy as ever. Essentially, I am wired.
We need at least one great general who has fought his way too deep into enemy territory, an obscure mountain nation whose name only became important when it found itself in between several major powers, a place of rampant border warfare and raids, a place full of rebellious city states recently inherited by some powerful and very noble family, boy kings, undead uprisings and a lot of distrustful allies with ulterior motives.
And maybe, just maybe, a plucky 15 year old heroine whose main purpose is to provide a literary lesson into why they don't ever succeed in real life.

Awesome bronx...truly awesome...
Now as for this Great War campaign, maybe it shouldn't be the entire war...maybe just parts and or sagas of it...where we each take roles of certain kingdoms and armies in these stories of war...if you get what I'm saying.
Also bronx we have a battle to be had...although I'm not sure if we have enough time to do it all tonight we can at least iron at the details and maybe get it started...

Ok, I'm a little saner now.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything Todd says. Seriously, I do. He got the nail on the head of what I was trying to say, except it was like me describing it with robots and him stating it bluntly. Take, for example, an episode from the war where some famous general has led an army deep into enemy territory. Cut to that region and put people in the different places with a bit of background for them all to follow and interject themselves into those.

Re: The Great War (Campaign)
While that's certainly a good idea, especially for fleshing out our systems, it wasn't what I was getting at originally. I was aiming for more of a region-specific kind of deal that had multiple nations during a very chaotic and important time during the War, where everything that you two have discussed would take place, but it wouldn't be as small scale or from-story-to-story driven like I seem to feel that you are suggesting. Another campaign, something like Legends from the War, would detail such specific events.
This one is more of an excuse for people to hop right in to controlling countries/armies, etc.

Re: The Great War (Campaign)
So basically just less of a story line and more a sandbox set up with still relatively small and organised parameters that everyone doesn't have to spend a million years making up a back story and checking it out with everyone else?

Re: The Great War (Campaign)
Sounds good to me...would still need some parameters set up though...
Like...
Combatants ie Nations involved
Generals and what armies they are commanding as well as the stats of their armies
Officers and what units they are leading into battle
Soldiers (mostly for people who just want to fight in the war as opposed to leading it)
Terrain
Objectives
Ending Scenarios
That's all I can think of at any rate...anyone else have a suggestion?

Re: The Great War (Campaign)
Those are kind of obvious to make a good campaign out of this idea. I'm not going to work on it just yet. We need to worry about present-day stuff enough to actually get set up.
Re: The Great War (Campaign)
Oh...well I just wanted to make a list of things to actually get done...you know so it's down and everything...ok putting this aside for a latter date then.
